    Sub Form filtering

    Hello,

I am experiencing 2 issues that I find perplexing and I am hoping someone might be able to explain to me why they might be happening. I am using Access 2013.

I have a form that is made up of 4 separate sub forms. Each form has only 1 thing in common; they all display data for the same client and only 1 client at a time. They each are based on a different table and are not in any way associated/linked to the other sub forms. The sub forms, in order from top to bottom, display Plans, Locations, Elections and Notes.

Issue 1: Intermittantly it only allows 1 sub form to be filtered at a time. For example, if we filter the plans then we can't filter the locations until the plans are unfiltered. I am unsure why it sometimes works but then a few minutes later it wont.

Issue 2: It only allows 1 column in a sub form to be filtered at a time. For example, on the Elections sub form if I first filter by status (which would be Active, COBRA or Retiree) I can't then also filter by the elections (say I want see only options that exclude dental).

Clarifying the filtering. I say that I can't filter but to be precise, the first filter I can select the items by checking/unchecking the boxes but in the additional columns I would have to select Text Filter and type in the exact text as no check boxes are available on the menu.

    Thanks

Conventional search/filter would be on the main form for client and subforms would just tag along, displaying only client related records.

What method are you using to filter?

Please clarify how you are filtering - are you using the ribbon or by right clicking on a field? If using the former, try using the latter. If still a problem, suggest post your db with sample data to demonstrate the problem

    Hello,

Thanks for the responses. I hope this will answer some of the questions.

The sub forms open using a client ID on another form to pull and display data for only that client. Although I was not counting it, technically that would be the first filter. Each sub form is in a data sheet view. To filter the displayed content we just left click on the corner of the header we want to filter to open the sort and filter options. Right clicking does give sort options but not filter options.

    Thanks

That is apparently limitation of the header filter. Right click does give filter options. But don't click on header, click on a row.
