    linked files

    Hi,

I have linked excel files to MS Access. the source is Excel..But I use Ms Access to retrieve the data..Is there a chance that when i retrieve particular data on MS access using a query and I can make changes to that data on Access itself, without going back to excel files?

    Hi Ashok,

You are able to change the data in the Excel spreadsheet from within Access if you base a query on the linked excel file, but you cannot update the field names from access of the linked table.

If you need to update a column name or add more colums in the Excel spreadsheet, do this from within the spreadsheet, close down access first, make your changes and save, then re-open the access database and you will see your changes.

    Hope this helps!
