Error when using WIA library and doing auto document feed scanning

Why am I getting this error when trying to use the Transfer method? The line that causes the error is below. I can provide more info as needed so that this post doesn't turn into a wall of text.

Set wiaImg = Scanner.Items(1).Transfer(wiaFormatBMP)

Error: -2147024809
Description: The parameter is incorrect.
