    It is old tabletop game that does use real stats to rate players. Since I have a cat who likes to investigate things, if I can translate it into something computerized, I won't have to deal with her.

    It does make life easier.
    Not always. If you allow a table edit or append and your AfterUpdate event code decides that was wrong, now what? Sometimes better to prevent such things rather than have to correct them. That would usually be handled the BeforeUpdate event.
