cannot save a query due to some form of safeguard

I am doing some analysis of a front-end access application, and I need to create some new very basic queries. I am guessing the previous developer decided to put in some safeguards to prevent users amending queries, creating new objects, deleting existing objects in his master front end etc. I am not 100% sure how they have achieved this, but for example, I can hold shift + open the front end database, create > query design > I can build my query in design view, or SQL view, execute it and view the results, but I cannot actually see the query name tab e.g. query1 in order to right click and save it!! I cant recall if under normal circumstances there are save options with right click, but if so they appear to have been disabled/hidden as well.

Any idea how someone would put such a visual/save restriction in place on an access front end database file, any way to bypass it, or disable this feature at least temporarily? I do recall from many moons ago users had figured out how to bypass the front end using key combinations and were updating data directly, causing the administrator a major headache, so I am guessing this was perhaps one of many safeguards put in place to prevent rogue users bypassing the frontend GUI and all the validation rules the admin had put into effect. I do genuinely need to temporarily bypass/turn this off!

Sounds like you have tabbed documents display but with the tabs hidden.
Open Access Options from the File menu, click Current Database then tick Display Document Tabs.

Or change to Overlapping Windows display.
