unbound field defaulting to prior record value

I have a subform that has an unbound field that I was using a default value in. I change the value to nothing so I could put any value in as needed. now every time i put a value into that field it changed every record in the database to that value, which changes the end value of the calculated field it was based on. It seems to be a problem that just happened as before each record remained with the value i put into that field. How do i get the field not to change every record when i add a new record, or edit an existing one?

You should at least show us a screen shot as your explanation is lacking a bit on clarity. But I think your subform is set as continuous form and therefore any unbound control will have the same value for all records. You need to bind it to a field if you want different values for each record.
