Windows10 Update Preventing Access Developer Tools

    Greeting Access gurus,

my work laptop installed a Windows10 update this morning and now when I open a database there is no toolbar showing and as such cannot continue with development.
I reported this to the ICT Helpdesk at work and they were unable to give a solution, but said that 3 other users had reported the same issue today.

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem please?

When you say no Toolbar, do you mean the Ribbon along the Top of the Application or the Navigation Menu down the Left hand side?
You can PM me if you need further help.

Rollback the update for now and postpone any more until IT can get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for the reply. There is no Ribbon at the top and no Navigation Menu. The F11 function to open the database window is also disabled. Even the mouse right click feature no longer works! HELP! :-)

Is this the standard office ribbon or a custom ribbon (i.e. created via code)?
Happens only in Access or other Office apps too?

EDIT - could try office repair as per here

these ae the features of running an app using access runtime. It can be emulated in a full version of access by renaming the file as a .accdr

So check the file extension and check with your IT - perhaps they have installed a runtime version of access as the default

When I try to open Access I get the message 'Microsoft Access Runtime is installed on this machine' but it worked fine until the updates were installed this morning. I have copied the database to another laptop that also had an overnight update installed, and it works fine. Also, none of my databases now work on the work machine.

do you have the full version on your machine? if so. try right clicking on the app and select the full version to open with. Or open the fuill version and then open the app from there.

And did you check the file extension?

Morning. Yes, it is the full version of Access. Tried right clicking the database file and chose 'Open with' MS Access... still no Ribbon or menus. Also tried changing the .mdb suffix to .accdr - again it didn't work

if you are using .mdb's then would change to .mdr, (years since I've used .mdb's so think that was the way back then).

It is frustrating when questions are asked or suggestions made and you do not respond fully, so I'll suggest again -

Or open the full version and then open the app from there.

what happens when you do this?

I have uninstalled Access Runtime - absolutely no idea how it got on the laptop in the first place, then reinstalled Access, and everything works as normal now. Thanks to you and to everyone for the suggestions!

Best advise your colleagues of the solution then, and speak to IT.?
Quite likely they pushed out the runtime to other computers and you and your colleagues were included by mistake.
