I think I've decided that this is not worth the hassle. I've spent several days on it already, and nothing seems to work. Leaving the old value in the ComboBox is just cosmetic - the important thing is that the data is getting changed. Unless someone comes up with something clear and simple, and I've just been missing it, I'm going to retreat to a time-honored IT tradition: I'm going to call it a feature instead of a bug, and say it simply reflects the last filtered name. The name doesn't exist any more - fine, filter for something else, but that was the last action in the control, and it will stay there until the user changes it.

Dont give up. I've been enjoying this challenge, It inspired me to go back and re-look at constructing ribbons. I've learned tons in the last couple days.
    Take a look around this site if you haven't already . . . https://www.accessribbon.de/en/?Acce...bons:Callbacks
    There are a lot of samples here . . . https://www.accessribbon.de/en/?Downloads
I found to download the samples you need to right click on the link and open it in a new window. Then hit refresh and it opens a download dialog. Dont know why but it works.
If this helped, please click the star * at the bottom left and add to my reputation- Thanks

I'm familiar with that site, although it's been a while since I last looked at it. They have a bunch of new material - I'll have a look again. And this was originally written quite a few years back, and I've been maintaining it in 2007-compatible format. But the end user is getting some upgrades, so I should be able to take advantage of some new features, like more formatting ability in toggle buttons. In any case, as I wrote, this is not a critical issue. If it turns out to not be possible, or practical, the hell with it. It works well enough.
