    Smile Report Lay Out

    Hi Guys,

Im trying to lay out a report like the attached.

I am tring to get a horizontal as well as vertical layout, which i'm not sure is possible.

So far I've been able to get the horizontal layout using columns but cant then get a vertical layout as well.

    Any Ideas?

    Many Thanks

do you have your table ready or you want some suggestion on the design of the table.

if you have the table already, please provide some details of the table.

Are you suggesting putting a table into a report?

    Thanks

I meant the table providing data to your report.

    Apologies for the missunderstanding.

My data comes from 3 queries and I have pasted the result into the top of the attached word document.

Its from that i am trying to get it to sit in a similar format to the data below (In the attachment)

I hope this is a little clearer

Exactly you should use a crosstab query. then group by [lo level group] in the report. Then, what is still holding you back?

I'm finding the crosstab query quite restrictive.

As I've never used it before it doesnt give me enough levels. Am I just totally missing something

are "F/C" and "variance" fieldnames of you table/query?
what are "basic pay" and "National Insurance", I only found similiar thing in "lo level group" but not exactly.

crosstab query can only have one value field. you need to transform 3 fields into vertical records for example:

    before:
    actual f/c variance
    1 2 2
    3 2 3

    After:
    Type Value
    actual 1
    actual 3
    f/c 2
    f/c 2
    vairance 2
    variance 3

then you can use crosstab query.

yes, F/c and variance are field names in the query, and basic pay and Nat Ins are low level group.

I'm still not sure where to bring in the cost centre as although I am only showing one in the attachment I have several.

Many thanks for your help so far

    the cost center stays.

I meant crosstab query only accept one value field. so you can have only one value field in you table. no need to adjust other fields.

    an example, fields of table:
[Cost Center], [type], [value], [lo level group]...

Many thanks, Ive managed to crack it.

With your help and various help pages on crosstab multiple values, I believe I have the layout I want.

All I need to do is get it into a report.

Many thanks for your patience and help.
