Although I don't recommend this method, here's the code to disable using the shift key when opening an mdb. Use it sparengly (if ever) and 'don't' lock yourself out of your own mdb by forgetting the password!!

I use the method on every front end that I deploy.
If you always split every databases and the "locked" down front end that is deployed as an MDE/ACCDE, this is a great method to use.

I would make the front end a mde. I would also use the Shift property setting, but I believe it's setting can easily be changed from another db, like the one attached.

You are correct that the Shift Bypass property can be set from an external app. I use an app that lock down a MDE/ACCDE.
