Data format differs in Union Query SQL view to intial query

Ok I created a simple query the search criteria being 1/2/19 (UK format so 1st February 2019) but when I switch to SQL view(to create a Union Query) the date format has been changed to US Format so 2/1/19
I'm guessing there's some setting somewhere but have had a look and can't see anything so any help very greatly appreciated

If there is not a 'solution' I guess I will just have to use US format dates

format([datefield], "dd/mm/yyyy") should work, just be aware the field will be treated as a text field so trying to perform calculations on it in subsequent steps won't work, you'd actually have to perform the calculation on the original field.
