Using one form for multiple functions

I am trying to make ONE form for multiple functions.

Name:	Access page 1.jpg
Views:	22
Size:	56.0 KB
ID:	35636

This is a simplified idea. In the top section the user enters a last name to search for the employee and Access would populate the top section from the employee table then enter job data into the bottom section and save the record. The bottom section is saved in the jobs table and the common link between the two tables is the email address. I have been able to do either or as individual forms but I have not been able to combine this into ONE form. Once this is working I would like to add one more section to the form at the bottom that would show all the jobs for that employee.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum!

What you would like to do is easily done w/ ms access. My thoughts:

"the common link between the two tables is the email address" I wouldn't do this. Each employee should have a unique ID field that's probably a AutoNumber datatype, this is what's meant to be used to link tables. While the email addresses may be unique using them as foreign keys is a waste of disk space and processing time. Review this and that.

You set up a main form for your employees (staff). Then you would have a subform on the main form to list all the employee's assignments and add a new one. Very easy. Review this.
