Unable to open Northwind Tables, Forms, etc. in Design View

I too cannot open tables, forms, etc. in the Northwind 2010 access template in design view. I also cannot view the table relationships in Database Tools.

I can do this with other 2010 templates such as Call Tracker, Sales Pipeline and event management.

I can see design view in the Northwind 2007 template but not the 2010 version.

Can someone tell me how to unlock design view? I have put all of my access templates in a trusted location, so that isn't the problem. Also opening the 2010 Northwind template by holding down the shift key doesn't work.

    Thanks!

Have you tried putting "MyComputer" in your trusted location?

Yep, and it still doesn't work. Not sure why I'd have to label "my computer" as a trusted location when the Northwind .accdb file is already in a folder that was labeled as a trusted location. Could the problem be that I am running Windows 7, 64 bit?

Note that the Relationships button is grayed out in the Database Tools tab in the 2010 version, but not the 2007 Northwind version.

Again, I can see design view in several other templates.

Thanks very much for your help!

If you downloaded the Northwind sample database from the web, you can not go into any design view and the relationship window is grayed out.

What you have to do is to open Access. Click on the file tab, Choose NEW, choose SAMPLE TEMPLATES. Then from the available templates choose NORTHWIND (2nd row, 3rd from left) Towards the right side of that window, choose where you want to save it, (by clicking on the tiny folder icon, then click the CREATE button.

If you do it that way, instead of downloading it from the web, everything works exactly like the 2007 version. In fact, I can't tell the difference between them.

God bless you and your progeny, I thought it was my Ausheimers kicking in. This info was so helpful. I spent hours trying to figure out the problem.
