    Question Modify sample templates?

I would like to use a sample template (for instance, Projects) as the basis for my own customised form and to get a feel of how things work in 2010, add/delete and modify forms, code, etc. However, I can't figure out how to get into Design mode. Any help how to do this will be appreciated.

Try holding down a <SHIFT> key when you load the db.

Thanks, Rual Guy, but that didn't work. When the dB opens, the only available views are Form View and Layout View - I want Design View.

I don't have ac2010 loaded now. I'll see if ac2007 has the same template. Is if included with 2010 or did you get if off of the web site?

I tried the ones that came with v2010, and ones available on the internet.

Well the Projects that comes with ac2007 works as I would expect. Have you set your Trusted Locations yet?

Er, no - haven't set Trusted Locations, but I don't have any trouble downloading the templates. They open just fine - just can't get into Design View. I've tried looking at the old Northwind database revamped for 2010, but no luck there either. In 2003, you used to be able to open it to see how it works with no problems...

That's probably it then. Since 2007, Access needs to have the "Trusted Locations" set to do any development. Here's a link on how to do it: http://www.btabdevelopment.com/ts/de...aspx?PageId=13

I followed the instructions and added "C:\My documents" to trusted locations. However, I never received a message saying anything wasn't "trustworthy" to begin with. At any rate, I still can't open any of the templates in Design View...

Is that the location where you have Access and the templates?

Try saving the db in c:\My Documents and then loading it again.

The full path for documents on my PC is
    Computer, Libraries, Documents, Access Projects

    Microsoft programmes are in
computer, Local Dick (C, Program Files, Microsoft Office, Office14...
(There are lots of subfolders here)

I think adding my computer to trusted sites might have done the trick - partically. I just downloaded and opened a few of the templates -- none of which are web databases, i.e. Contracts Web Database, Issues Web Database, Projects Web Database.

That must be the difference (web template vs. local). Don't understand why that is though...and would be a shame as eventually my database will go onto an SQL server.

It sounds like at least for now you are good to go. I suspect it is some sort of setup issue. It will almost certainly work as you wish when everything is properly set up. Are you ready to call this thread Solved?

Not ready to close it yet, I'm afraid to say. Mostly because I'd like to see how the web templates (like the Customer and Project web templates) do some some of the nifty things they do. Northwind is very much the same as it was in 2003.

Although I seem to be the only one that can't open web templates in Design View, someone some day might want to know how to do it. If we leave this open, maybe a Microsoft tech person will see it and have an answer!

I do very much appreciate your assistance getting me this far though!
