the form's record source may be a query. You must add that new field to the query.

    Nope that was not it.

It seems when I do a link it copies all the tables and adds a number "1" to the end of the file? The table with file ending in #"1" has the added records.

The form still shows the original data.

    What am I doing wrong?

well you have confusion. the 1 being added automatically means that a table of the same name already existed in your FE.

that's the only thing I know for sure. how you got there I can't say.

delete out both tables - - then relink to the correct one.

b.t.w. If you hold your cursor over that table - it will show you the path (also one can open LinkTable Manager to see the path) - - - if they are just duplicates then they will have the identical path...on the other hand if they are from differing BEs (maybe an older version exists somewhere) then this will also explain why you added a field and don't see it - - because you are in the wrong BE.

Ok then for best practices should I always delete the FE tables then link to the BE?? Or vice versus?

My goal is to keep Developing the FE and always be able to connect to the BE

no this isn't a best practices issue. generally one can simply refresh/relink to the BE. but since you are in tangle where you have multiple tables with the same name...you need to clean things up. normally it isn't an issue.

everyone is human. have I accidentally linked to the wrong/old BE...sure....

I did not think this would be so hard. Wish it were client server.

I deleted the tables and linked them and they work OK.

But I added a field in the BE. Went to the FE. to create a filed on a form and the field is not there. relinked no luck.

What is the best practice for making changes in an access database whiles the client uses it daily?

    Thanks,

    BOB
