Control or subform control is too large for this location

    Hi Experts,

I have a large amount of textboxes (approx. 40) in a subform, which belong to details section of the subform. Accidently all of these textboxes have moved to header section of the subform and when I am trying to move them back to details section (by drag and drop), a message pops up that:

The Control of subform control is too large for this location.
The number you entered for the left, Top, Height, or Width property is too large or is a negative number.
Reduce the size of the control or subform control, or enter a positive number.

I open this subform in datasheet view from a main form, therefore the textboxes should really be in details section only. Any suggestion as to how I can resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time in advance.

forms cant have lots of controls.
If you have 40, you may need to rethink the table design.
    a more normalized design:
    [id], test, result
    321, bloodType, O+
    321, EEG, 32.44
    321, BP, 120/80
    321, Ht, 70"

I have never seen that error. I have forms with several hundred controls, I think 750 is maximum possible and I have hit it. Try running Compact & Repair. Are you trying to edit the subform within the main form? Try editing the subform open in design view independently.

    Agree with June
Most of my forms have far more than 40 controls - quite a few have several hundred
The limit is indeed around 750 though I've read posts where people have somehow exceeded that without issues

However I have seen the error.
I use metric units so by default Access shows control sizes in cm.
If you are not careful when editing values, the 'c' can get overwritten giving values like 3.501m which exceeds the form size limit & triggers the error

Whether that's relevant to your situation, I've no idea.
