Row Number In Queries

How Can Create Row Number In Queries?

I always have to ask why, as it won't mean anything the next time you run the query... ?
If it is for a report to display line numbers it's easier to do it in the report.

If not what would determine the order of row number.

row# dont work well in queries.
they do in reports.
