    Add prefix to AutoNumber

I have an Access database with three tables. Each table has an auto number for identification.

I would like to add a prefix to the autonumber indicating which table it is. The prefix can be a simple single capital letter.

I would prefer that this is done in the original table and not a query.

    Any suggestions?

You can not add anything within the autonumber field itself, so it would need to be added after the fact. You could add a field to the table with the prefix letter, but it would be a waste of space. I'd simply add it in queries/forms/reports.

Thanks, Paul, for the quick reply. I guessed that was the situation, and will work arount as you suggested.
