MDE front end created with A2013 "can't" execute in A2010 run environment

Recently, I created an MDE front-end file from A2013 and shipped it to another computer that has A2010 installed. The A2010 system "complained" that the MDE file was created in a "later" version of Access and failed to execute. I know of no compatibility issues with MDE formatted run files going backward. What might I be missing here?

I haven't heard of any Office product where you can go backwards. Convert the file to A-2010 prior to making the accde.

I would expect backward compatibility issues with accde formatted files, but NOT mde. Anyway, I don't need hassles with such issues so I'll roll back to A2010 to be more compatible with client machines.
(Obviously, even with mde formats, one can't use advanced features of one level and expect any kind of backward compatibility. E.g., A2010 calendars on date controls won't work on A2003, etc.)
