Data inside field dissapears when editing field

When you open a table to edit the data in a particular field in a particular record the data disappears. When you exit the field the data is there. All the other records do not do this for this field.

I have tried repairing and compacting the database.
You can copy and paste the entire field with the + symbol.
You cannot use a query to find the data.
You can use the find function to find the value in the field.

    Any Ideas?

Sometimes this effect occurs when you have a paragraph break. Ctl-enter.
it has more than 1 line, so it appears blank. But not.
