Takes very long time to switch between Form and Form Design

In this last week I have found that the time to switch from Form to Form Design is much longer than usual. I get a busy cursor for up to 20 seconds. The same thing is happening between Report and report Design.
I also had some sample Reports running a week ago. They seemed quite fast, but this week there is a very noticeable delay.
Even when running code and with a break point, when looking at the Locals and clicking on Me, it can take 5-10 seconds before the Me opens and shows its details. Again the busy cursor.
I'm running ACC2010 on Lenovo laptop I7 with win8.1. I have Skype running and Firefox open, but not any other user processes.
    I have tried compact/repair.
I even took the basic query with data for the report and let Report wizard build a report---still very slow.

Has anyone had similar issues? Is there something to set/reset?

    I know M$oft had a big update Dec 8....

I have not seen anything unusual. But haven't run any large or complex dbs from laptop lately.

Have you tried db on another computer?

Might want to update your forum profile.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

    Thanks.
    I haven't tried on a different machine.
I did download a copy of NWind2000 and created a report there. Slow also.

I did update the profile, thanks for the nudge.

The only time I have experienced these symptoms is when I am designing an FE with linked tables (even when the backend is on a local drive). So I will maintain a persistence connection while designing.

Jack, is this on only one db or is it consistent amongst all your db.

    Hi Alan,

It's on 3 different databases --all relate to Northwind.

I was responding to a poster a week ago. Had set up some sample forms, all seemed to work well.
Then I realized I didn't know if it was a real NWind or some modified version. So,I went looking for an older Northwind. I found a couple and have done some work to get a form to capture some parms then open a report. In most cases, moving from Form to Design or Report to Report Design seems to take forever. And running the report is noticeably slower than before.

    Thanks for responding.
