One PC stupidly slow accessing linked tables!

    Hey everyone,

SO i have 'server' with LogikDB.accdb

I have The front end on

    Server
    PC1
    PC2
    PC3

    Issues:

    Server accesses data very fast
PC 1 and 2 are "slower but ok"
PC 3 is SOOOO slow. Eg. search boxes and queryies are taking 10 secs to run what Pc1 and 2 run in 0.5 seconds.

I have made my main DB "Subdatasheets" = [none] but this hasnt helped the issue at all.

I even have a code on startup "access linked table relinker" which i got from ... (this forum??) which checks to see if the linked tables exist.

On all other PCs this takes 0.1 sec (instant).
On PC3 you have to wait 3-5 secs for the code to make sure the tables are there and contain the right data.

Now I do believe this makes me think that it is a network issue rather than an access issue... but where do i go from here??

    Ping tests etc?

They are all connected to same switch.

    Ideas anyone?

    Thanks in Advance

does PC3 have the same processor?
does PC3 have less memory? add more.
does PC3 have a lesser grade CAT5 cable?

Are you using mapped drives? In a network, sometimes W7 and greater does not automatically reconnect to the network. Opening your Access file on the client machine does not automatically mean it connects to the server share.

Try comparing response times by opening one of the linked tables via the navigation pane. Wait for the table to open and do not set focus inside any of the fields. Then, test your query, while the table is open and you have a connection to the server.

Testing this will help isolate a couple things.

is it a split database? If the query's are located locally maybe its just not a very good pc

Yes it is a split database. QUeries are local, with tables all on server.

It is NOT mapped, it is connected via network places.

The PC is an i5 2500K
    8GB RAM
    64 x Windows 10

In my opinion far better than the other 2 computers (i3 and core 2 duo)

I will check the cabling. I did cable the other 2 myself and crimp them, but this one was already installed with cabling... a possible scenario.

Obviously rolling a pair is not an issue for any switch that is a little younger than dead. However, I have seen store bought cables that proclaim to be Ethernet that do not pin out right on the terminals. Might want to make sure they don't split tx and rx on two separate pairs/twists. Also, even if the share is not mapped, I would do the open table thing described in post #3, anyway. Opening a table, will create a lock file on the server and then you could at least determine if the slow down is because of the lock file being created.

    Hi

My first move on the slow PC would be to start the unit in Safe mode with networking. My normal ball park test is to place a large document or image on the server and load it on all PC's.

The one in safe mode should be super quick. If it does then it's not a network issue but something specific to that PC.

Are all the PC's wired? or on Wireless

Run task manager and see what's running try stopping unneeded services.

Are all the PC's running the same software take particular note of AV and malware scanners.

Lastly beware of Windows 10 -I recently had a client who had a slow running pc, it was down to Windows 10 being downloaded over his Netwrok!!

Your final solution could be that the PC is just too dirty and needs a reinstall

    HTH
