    distribution of database

    HI

I want to distribute my database on dvd, users have no need to change or add data. Indeed I'd like to lock it down so that only the determined user could do so

I created an Accde version but iit appears that is does does not run VB so I get an error re my autoexec I use the autoexec to hide the ribbon via vb code.

I then considered an accdr file but it seems to easy to just change the extension.

I was going to include the runtime on the dvd.

Am I approaching this is the wrong way?

    thanks

    Ian

for access to work it needs read/write permissions to where the database is located - I don't believe dvd's are a suitable location to run access although I guess you can use it to deliver the system - user can then just copy to the main drive.

    - it does - but you first have to set it's location as a trusted location (for access, trusted locations for excel, word etc are different) which the user will be prompted to do when the db is opened - unless it is installed in a pre-existing access trusted location - again, I don't think you can apply that to dvd's.

Runtime is for users who do not have access - you need to package the runtime with the database and when the user installs it will install the runtime version of access if a valid version does not exist. Any distribution should be as a accde.

Changing the extension to accdr is just so you as a developer can test that everything works ok under runtime (many functions are not available in runtime so if you need them you need to build them yourself).
