repeating details in report

dear sirs
i have created a report based on a table with fields father_name, mother_name etc.
while entering data i had to necessarily mention these fields in respect of children (say more than 1 child)

while creating/viewing a generated report, the columns - father_name, mother_name - are repeated:

for eg. name father name mother name
Peter John Margaret


William John Margaret
Richard John Margaret
incidentally, the record numbers are not consecutive.

is there a way, so that father and mother names are not repeated in the
following lines.

add a GROUP to the report, move the father/mother ,out of the detail, and into the 'parents' group.
it will only show once.

thanks for your suggestion. shall try.

in the meantime, i could solve the issue by doing the following:

open the report in design view

bring the curson to the fields where duplicate values appear
click for properties.

in the drop down menu, against hide duplicate, click yes

view the report. there are no repeat values in the columns
