Using Access to Receive, Manage and Send E-Mail Working as a Ticketing System

    Hi all!

I'm just a newbie here and I can't seem to find a thread about the my dilemma which is the subject of this post. I basically need Access to act as ticketing System so that when Outlook receives an item a specific inbox, Access will pick it up, generate a ticket reference number and then send the reference back to the user.

Thank in advance for the help! I'm all ears!

From Access, someone would have to push a button to trigger the 'pick up'.

I don't know if Outlook can be programmed to 'automatically' recognize when such a message is received and then run code to interact with Access to get ticket number and send email.

You can create an Outlook rule to move mail to a specified folder. Apparently, you can manage it from Access as well, but it won't be real easy. Search using something like "ms access mail from outlook folder vba". Here is one of the results I got - looks like it might do what you want with some tweaking.

I've got a number of automated imports running that look in Outlook for emails meeting certain criteria (usually subject). This is the code I started with (Saving an Email Attachment):

Edit: I should add that I started out by firing off an Access db from an Outlook rule, but found it didn't work well if multiple emails came in near the same time. I now run a db from Scheduled Tasks that checks the inbox for new emails and moves them to a subfolder once handled.

Thanks, Guys! I'll try each of them and find out which one fits closest to what is required. I appreciate it!

    Hi June7,

I think the link below makes Outlook as the first trigger in the sequence of process. I need to further check and apply it one by one. I can do VBA in excel but Outlook and Access seems to be a different animal altogether. I guess it will take time for me to accomplish this.

VBA editor is basically the same thing in all the Office suite apps.

They are probably referring to the differences in the object model for each.
