    Problem Splitting a Database

I have tried to split my database, putting the Back End to a drive so others can eventually use the tables. I have done many this many times before without any problem but, for some reason, I am getting the message 'subscript out of range'. After the message i'm still left with the 'Split Database Now' window on screen, though the tables have been copied to where I asked them to be placed?

On opening the database back up, the tables are also still part of the database, and although copied to the location I requested, the database hasn't actually 'split'. Any ideas anyone?

What process are you using to split the database? It may be an issue with the machines capabilities and available memory. It may be an issue with an Object within the database is corrupt.

I would try importing sections of the database using the Import Wizard. I would start with a new, blank, database. Start by linking to the original file as it resides on the server. Then I would use the Wizard to import over the Queries. Then I would Import the Modules and Classes. I would Import the Forms last.

Try splitting on a pc w bigger memory.

If the auto split app fails, you could try doing it manually.
    backup original
    create a new db
import all tables from the main app , to be front end
after that, goto the FE and delete all tables, then link all tables from the new BE.

Also, you can try to do a "Compact and Repair" on the database before splitting it, to see if that helps any.

It wasn't a memory or computer fault (there's 12Gb RAM and a 975 Intel quad chip buried in there) and I make a habit of Compress/Repair often. I was trying the conventional method for splitting but, I think a corrupt table was the problem (how that happened is another saga!). I fixed the suspected table, then used the method of creating a new file, then importing the tables using linked method did the trick.

Many thanks to ranman256, this guy has helped me so many times, he's a genius! Also thanks to JoeM
