Normalization Tips and Good Practice

I have done this myself and I am sure many of you have as well... get done doing some research and reading up on normalization only to walk away more confused than you were before with talk of first normal, second normal form, inconsistent dependencies, &c, &c. Perhaps I, and the forum's community, could benefit from some tips on normalizing your db. All thoughts encouraged!

Normalize till it hurts, de-normalize till it works.
