Wink Copy and Paste vs Back Up Database

    Hello,

I have been using Access for a few months now but today was wondering if I had been backing up my files wrong. What is the difference between copying the database file in your folder and pasting it in another folder versus in the database file-save as-back up database?

I want to be sure these database copies will work if I need them to.

    Thank you

I am not sure there is any difference. Doing a File Save As may check to see if there are any Record Locks but I do not know for sure. I don't think there is a difference between Copy Paste, File Save As, or using Code to call Shell commands to copy.

If a user has their cursor inside a control that is bound to a field that is updatable, that record may be locked for editing. Records can also be locked programmatically. There are different types of locks, too.
