A way to number and rank a filtered query

I have a query with IDs that fall within a date range (filtered)



say I choose 5 records out of 100 records

I want a custom field that counts the first record in that query to be 1 and count up to the last record


so if I re filter it to 7 records and the record count goes to 7 how to I make the first one display 1 and the last 7?
