Access says users are logged in when they aren't

I have a split database that I need to compile and perform maintenance on from time to time. I'm having trouble with this because the database is telling me that users are logged in when they aren't. I check the laccdb file and it's listing computer station names that are not even turned on.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Sometimes the laccdb gets orphaned.
If you can delete the file, then nobody is in it and it solves the problem.

Damn I'm not able to delete the laccdb file. It says it's being used by another program.

That is not unheard of and very annoying.

Turn on the computers, open then close the database.

In the past, we had a few issues like this where we actually need to re-boot the servers that the database was located on in order for it to recognize no one was in it and allow us to delete the locking file.
