All I can suggest is need to fix the RecordSource of the subform object.
You know a form is selected when it displays a solid black box in its upper left corner. Click in that corner to select the form. Clicking on a subform will require two clicks. The first one selects the subform container control and the second selects the form that is held by the container.

Yeah, luckily I had a backup saved so I started over. So what I've done is I went in to the table I want it to pull the information from, and added a new column called ExternalWork. I've then gone through each piece of equipment and added the text I'd like to pop up.
Then I went into the form design view and copy and pasted one of these... are these called controls?
You can see I then changed the name the label. Then I right clicked on the box on the right and went to properties which brings up this menu.
When I click on the data tab and dropdown box to select where to pull the information from (I'm assuming this is where you select it), my ExternalWork column that I added on that table is not one of the options.
So do I need to add that column somewhere first before I'm able to select it in that drop down?
Add the field to table.
Add the field to form RecordSource. If the RecordSource is direct reference to table or an SQL statement using field wildcard then the field should automatically be available to the form.

Looks like I had to add it to the Query design view and then create a new control instead of copy and pasting an existing one, but I think I got it.
Thank you so much for your help.
