Hi there MS Access Gurus,
I am new to Access. I am simply attempting to set the values of one field to another field in the same table e.g. PERSON_NAME = NEW_NAME. Can you recommend a simple way to accomplish this task?

Why need two fields with the same data?
Access 2010 has field type called Calculated. The expression in the Calculated field can be as simple as: [New_Name]
Otherwise, use an UPDATE query to populate the PERSON_NAME field with the values from NEW_NAME field.

How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.
The fields are actually called TYPE and TYPE_CODE and the value of TYPE depends on the value of TYPE_CODE and vice versa. I will explore the calculated field type. In the meantime, where would I apply the update query?

Confused. Setting TYPE equal to Type_Code makes no sense. If what you really want is dependent comboboxes, review http://www.datapigtechnologies.com/f...combobox2.html

coolpwr,
It would be helpful to readers if you could describe WHAT you are trying to do in plain English. Once readers understand your situation they may offer focused advice and/or options.
