why does required field allows user to delete contents?

I have set a field strPositionStatus in its Properties in its table to be Required = Yes. What am I missing? A user has noticed that they can delete the contents on a record without any error message. Does anyone know why it wouldn't work? Shouldn't that setting mean that on any form, in any query, and in the table itself, that you can't leave the record without getting an error message?

    Is it a Text field?
If so, is the "Allow Zero Length" property set to "No"?

    Fantastic, JoeM! Thanks.

Now for the follow up. Demanding, aren't I?

The automatic error message is "You must enter a value in the 'TBL-ET-POSITIONS.strPositionStatus' field." Pretty ugly for a user's eyes. So how do I trap that and send my own message that is simpler? Like "Position Status is required."

    Anyone?

    Happy Monday!
