    Student Results Database Design

Hi,I'm after a little help with designing a student records databse from scratch - I'm reasonably familiar with Access but can't get my head around this design. I have multiple students who attend four different courses at our school (they can take each course more than once). During each course they sit multiple exams (and can take each each more than once). What I would like to do is have a database to store:- student records- course records- exam resultsSo this is the basic design that I am starting with:Student Table Student_ID (PK) Student_Name Student details....Course Table Course_ID (PK) Course_Type_ID (FK) Course_Number Course_Start_Date Course_End_DateExam Table Exam_ID (PK) Exam_Name Course_Type_ID (FK) Exam_Max_Marks Exam_Pass_MarksExam Results Table Result_ID (PK) Student_ID (FK) Exam_ID (FK) Result_MarkDoes this sound reasonable? Any thoughts on the design would be very much appreciated!Wally

Have you looked at the Classroom Management template available for download from MS? http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/te...in=HA001234159
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

Yes - I have. I can't download it at work owing to restrictions on our system. When I looked at it before I couldn't work out how to amend it to fit our training pattern. I also would like the challenge of designing my own databse.

Understood, just thought it could offer ideas.

What you show in your original post does seem reasonable for a start but it isn't really presented well for analysis.

I would recommend you start by reading "Database Design Guide" at http://www.smart-it-consulting.com/d...-design-guide/

Then go to Roger's Access Library and go through the tutorials. http://www.rogersaccesslibrary.com/forum/forum46.html

This should help you with the dB design.
