We can create a Global User Defined Function (UDF) for this but are you in control of the design?

I'm not trying to run you around in circles Diane but the design seems a bit awkward and perhaps suffers from some normalization issues. You may want to examine those items first.

    yeh i know...

its bc the users want to be able to also report separately on these three categories when needed, hence why the Form doesn't just ask for them to fill it into one cell.. but then they want to combine it into one column for certain reports...

what do you mean by normalization issues?

Do you want to create a UDF for the latest issue or revise the table structure a bit?

i don't think i can revise the table structure.. my option is to probably create a UDF... or report on it in three separate columns (which isn't the ideal)

OK, we'll need a UDF that will accept 6 arguments then. Do you know how to create a standard module?

Yes, i just have never written an actual UDF..

If you help me outline the first few steps, I'm sure I can figure it out from there.

OK, start a new module. What do you want to call our new function? It can be anything but the name you give the module.

I have to leave in about an hour and need to get ready. Can we take this up again tomorrow?

Are you ready to get started again? How about the answer to the question in post #26?
