    Reserved Word 'REPORT$'

I am helping a new client troubleshoot their AccessDB. They are running a macro which simply opens a series of queries. When opening one of the queries an Access error dialog opens: "'REPORT$' is not a valid name. Make sure you have spelled the name correctly and use valid characters." or something very close to that. Clicking OK opens another window which displays the name of the running macro and arguments. If I try to edit the query I get the same error (REPORT$...) and then the query opens in SQL view only, it is not possible to edit the offending query in design view.

The query is a select query. The word REPORT does not appear in the the SQL statement. I am stymied. Thanks for any assistance you might be able to offer.

take a look at the SQL and make sure each table or query object defined actually exists in the DB.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I did verify the tables existed and had data. I don't remember cross referencing for queries which may be in the SQL. I'll double check. Have you seen this message before ?

I have seen "is not a valid name" but don't understand the $. Seems like the error is having an issue with an interpretation of the characters, like an issue with a standard and is placing the $ as a substitute. May have something to do with a macro created in an incompatible version of Access but, you mentioned the query object does not want to open either.

The times I have seen the error is when I am importing objects and don't import a table or query that a query is dependent on. Or import objects in the incorrect order, opening a query, then importing a table that the query depends on.
