Lock Field based on other field value

I am trying to lock a field from being updated based upon another field that is a combo list.

I have already used the After Update to prevent it from being updated when the combo list is updated.

However, I have the combo list defaulted to a certain value to begin with, so the After Update would not work if its not updated.

    How can I do that?

Have you tried using the Current Event of the form too?

Have you tried the "Or" operator in your condition statement? ... Or equals the default value of the field name (Combo Box)
In reading your post...I may have the fields along with their intents mixed up.

RC is correct in that Conditional Formatting might be the simplest solution in this case.
