importing csv file to append record

I am trying to enter data from multiple administrations of the same survey to the same record unique identifer (student id), with question responses from different administrations going into different fields. Upon scanning, a csv file is created, that is imported into the table, but it writes a new record each time. It would be much easier to examine pre post changes if the data is located in the same record, rather than adding a record each time, which could really increase the size of the table over time. Any suggestions?

Import your csv data into a temporary table, then build a query of notinlist rows, then use that query to append to the table. This will running very quickly.
