    MDE Creation problem

I am using Access 2003 on a Vista Ultimate 64 bit machine.
When I click to Create MDE file...

it asks me for the name, I accept the default, and then Access goes to 'Not Responding' and just sits.
Are there any patches I am not aware of, or something else?
Would prefer to not distribute app as mdb.
    Thanks in advance.

Do you have all of the latest Service Packs (SP3 I think) and HotFixes applied? It is possible it is just a Vista issue.

Yes, I have the latest and greatest Vista.
I also tried it on an XP machine and got the same result.
Is there some other utility, possibly third party, that can do the same thing?

Access 2003 is up to SP3 with HotFixes. Are they installed?

When I go to Help>About Microsoft Office Access
it shows Microsoft Office Access (11.8204.8221) SP3
This is after I downloaded the Hotfix (from your link) and ran it.
I still have the same problem.

The limit on a ZIP file on this forum is 2MB. Zip it up first.

Well it compiles just fine on my machine and I am able to create an MDE as well. I don't know where that leaves us.

    I appreciate all your help.
I guess it is just some Gremlin in my system that I will have to work at and see if I can find.
    Thanks again.

Are you sure you had the same issue when you tried it on the XP machine? That's what I have.

That is the fly in the ointment.
I am working on checking latest and greatest on the XP machine.
If I get it worked out I will let you know.
    Thanks.

For full disclosure, I used Ac2002 and not ac2003. The file format is 2002 so I could do that.

Well, I installed Access 2003 at home, got SP3 installed and the hot fixes from your post #4.
Did the 'Database Utilities>Make MDE File...' and got this error message:
"This error is usually associated with compiling a large database into an MDE file. Due to the method used to compile the database, a considerable number of TableID references are created for each table. The Microsoft Jet database engine version 4.0 can only create a maximum of 2048 open TableIDs at one time. Exporting a database as an MDE potentially can exceed this limit if the database has a large number of objects (table, macro, form, report, etc).
There is no accurate method to estimate the number of TableIDs the Jet database engine uses during the process of compiling a database as an MDE. However, each VBA module and each form uses one TableID, as a result, if the database has 500 forms, and each form's HasModule property is set to Yes, as many as 1,000 TableIDs are used."

I went back to try again and then got: Your Microsoft Office Access database or project contains a missing or broken reference to the file 'EPlotViewer.dll' version 1.0
There was also directions to uncheck the reference in the Visual Basic Editor, so I did because this viewer is used for AutoCad files which I don't need to use in this database.
I tried to make a MDE file again, and it froze.
