Linking Excel file problems

I'm trying to link to an excel file, I do this without any problem but what I cannot do is add any new records in the now linked table. The buttons are gone and no new record buttons are available, what can I do to fix this?

Your results do not surprise me at all. Though I can not find any documentation on the subject, both my acXP and ac07 are the same as you experience. It would be my take that if you want to add rows to an Excel spreadsheet, either you do it in Excel or import the spreadsheet to Access, add the row and then export the table back to Excel.
