Calculate Sales of Previous Months

Please I would like some help with a function.
I need a function to calculate sales of all previous months of current year without sales of current month.

e.g for today
calculate sales from January to August

Run an aggregate query Group on the months, Sum on the Sales and set your criteria for the months field to exclude the current month. How you exclude your current month will depend upon how you have your date field established. You may have to use between function if it is truly in date format with years.
