Autofill text field on new record

I have searched this forum and couldn't find an answer to my question so I apologize if this has already been addressed and I just couldn't find it.
I have a text field with a lookup where you can either select "active" or "inactive" (created in the table and restricted to those two choices). I would like this field to automatically default to "active" when creating a new record in a form. Then if the member becomes inactive I can manually change it. Is this possible?

Have you tried setting its Default Value property.

No, I didn't think of that. I just assumed I would need to add some code to the form and couldn't think of what it would be. Thanks for your help, that worked perfectly! Thanks for your help.
