Wrong code page outputting to dbase

I have been using MS Access for some time as a final staging point before outputting some data to dbase. The final data has to be in dbase form. It seems that when I'm outputting the data to dbase (doesn't matter III, IV, or 5), the extended ASCII records are getting corrupted into different values on output.

What method are you using to output?

I searched web on topic of Access 2010 interaction with dBase. Seeing a lot of problem posts.

Seems MS is cutting support for dBase. AFAIK, it has been completely removed from 2013. Even Excel 2007 can't save as or export to dbf.

Yeah, I'm aware dbase is a depricated format. Unfortunately I have several legacy systems that rely on it. As far as how I'm exporting, it's a manual right-click on table export. If I do that with to a text file, I can indicate the codepage using the advanced options. When I do it with dbase, I don't get the choice. Back when I worked on FoxPro, I remember being able to specify a code page, but I can't find any way in Access to, ahem, access that information.

I don't know what you mean by 'codepage'.

Code page essentially tells software what subset of ASCII (or something else) to use. For example, there's a codepage for Cyrillic, one for Swedish, one for Unicode, one for Western US (Windows), and one for Western US (Mac). If you use the wrong codepage, it doesn't matter much for lower ascii values, but your higher ascii values have a different assignment, so you get the wrong character. It will still look right in access (or any program using the same codepage you output in), but it WON'T look right if the program is expecting a different codepage.

BTW, I'm the OP, I just screwed up my account so I made a different one to be able to reply.

Oh boy, you are in a pickle! I got caught in one, too. Gave up dBase.

Might have to go with another software to convert text file to dBase.

Bing: convert text file to dBase
