Creating a "search" field in the header

I have created my basic table/forms with the relevant info.

I then have created a header which I want to act as a search function.
I have created a "combo box" that list the relevant fields, however I am not sure how to link the combo box in the header with the form below.
For example in the combo box, if I type in eg "tree101" I want the tree101 record to be listed in the form below.

I am a newbie who only know's the basic of access.

You may get some ideas from this free video from Datapig

    Hi Alansidman,

Many thanks for the video, it makes it a lot easier to understand. It is exactly what I am after, but you lost me at 2.38 mark / Form 1. Is Form 1 a query or a table? In this list, it should have all the information I want shown on the form?

Form 1 is the form that is bound to either your table or query that contains all the data you are wanting to filter.

The method requires form bound to a parameterized query, not to a table.

Here is another application of parameterized query from DataPig:

Hi I have changed this so I don't have a combo box but a text box. It works fine the only problem is that when I click to open the form a box pops up asking for the code that I am using as my criteria instead of the user typing it into the actual text box in the header.

How could I change it so that it doesnt ask the user on startup?

    Many Thanks

In the data column of the text box properties I have left column source blank as the source will be when the user enters text into the text box

Ok it seems to be working, I dont get the popup box anymore, but now the form is empty until the user enters data into the text box how do I get it to only filter after the user has entered data?
