Split vs. Whole DB (Front-End, Back-End) What's the Diff?

    Hi All,

    I'm perplexed.

I have been under the impression that splitting a database between front-end and back-end meant that all the tables go in the back-end and all forms, queries, and reports go on the front end.

I have Access 2007 and split the database with the wizard and the back-end indeed only has the tables, but the front-end still has everything (forms, queries, reports, AND tables) and allows you to edit tables. So what's the point?

I read on the internet that Access 2007 no longer has user-level security. How then do I protect the integrity of my tables? How can I modify/split/password protect/whatever my database such that certain users can only input into certain forms, and other users can use reports, see tables, etc?

    Thanks!

I haven't used the wizard, but make sure the icons of the tables in the Navigation Pane of the front end have arrows next to them. That indicates a linked table, and confirms that the tables are indeed in the back end where they belong.

Is there a different way to do this? Can you specify what goes on which end?

Im basically looking for a way to protect the integrity of my database. Excel has "Protect" option that disallows people from editing cells, does Access have anything similar?

Resolved this issue by hiding tables on Front-End.
