Field switching from Number format to Text

I'm running a 'make table' query and am pulling in a number field from another table. The update query those is updating that field in the new table as a text and not a number. How do I keep this from happening? Thanks.

you are sure the field property of the original table is number and not text?

any way - you can look up the CAST method and determine a good place to deploy that...

or try creating the destination table; defining all the field properties...and then using an Append query
