When I compact the backend file, it is only about 2MB. Over the course of a day or two, it gets up to 70MB or higher. This is just rediculous and is causing major slowness. Any idea what might cause such a huge bloat?

No idea. My BE is about 150+mb and performance is not an issue. I don't run C&R very often and when I do the size doesn't change much.
