Group by one field, sort by another

I'm trying to build a report that groups by Company. Also at this grouping level is the total $ spent by the company. So the report should be a bunch of group headers containing a list of companies and their respective $ spent. However, I don't want to sort by the grouping field (Company). I want to sort by the $. I noticed that the report builder forces the grouping field to set the sort. Any way to override this??

What happens if you create a $ Sort By condition in the report and position it above the company Group On condition?

Then it group companies within the sort. So it would sort by the $, and only group under a company header if there will multiple values of the same $ value. The sort takes priority over the group, not at the same level.
