    Question CSV vs XLS Import

I get data for one of my databases by downloading from an Oracle database. I can download in either CSV or XLS format. That database contains several date fields and the name field is first and last seperated by a comma.

I want to be able to import it into Access so that I can generate reports from it. If I download CSV it seperates the name into two fields so the rest of the fields are thrown off. If I dowload it as an XLS file, it converts the dates.

Is there a way to import the spreadsheet so that it will work with both? I am using Access 2003 at work.

    Thanks.

    Import xls or csv

You can import either but they will need different import procedures to update your tables. The excel file should import easily enough while you will need import specs and some conversion to the csv file for it to update your tables. Attach sample files and I'll provide a demo or send me the samples in a email;- d [dot] mcdonald [at] ozemail [dot] com [dot] au

    cheers
