This would be extremely difficult with an mdb/accdb. All anyone has to do is hold down shift key when opening db and will bypass code and anything can be done at will with the db.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.
thanks june7, im using microsoft access.
is there really no reasonably easy way to create such a lock for it?
like everyday from 10pm till 6am no one should be able to access the microsoft acess file
No reasonably easy way with an mdb/accdb. Might be able to do this with executable mde/accde. I have never set up mde/accde. Can put code behind a form set as default when db opens that will check for the time frame and shut but as noted, if someone is aware of the shift key bypass for an mdb/accdb, this code can be negated. There is a way to negate the shift bypass but think requires the db be password encrypted.
You have staff in the office 10pm to 6am?
If security is that critical, maybe Access is not the best app for your situation.

i don't have staff in office from 10pm to 6am and thats why i am implementing this security features.
i am guessing u have a lan in your office. maybe have the hub/switch on a timer to switch off between certain times.
if u dont want to take the system down, have the access tables on a different machine and switch of that particular machine access using the above method.
all depends on ur setup
i am assuming your tables are in a central location and is accessed by multiple users.
me gusta, no inteleg<< inetlagent<<... inttellegge<<<... smart
IF what qa12dx says is true, like if all of your mdbs and mdes are stored on one of the machines.. You could have an auto shutdown batch run from another machine.. Thats simple enough.
I guess I am just struggling with the specific situation.
However, if anyone wants to fiddle with remote shutdowns/restarts from the cmd prompt... type in shutdown -i This will bring up the gui.
